READ FIRST: I'm just a guy who's had ingrown toenails and then stumbled on a way to manage them and I think (fingers crossed) put them behind me. One time I even had to go into a podiatrist and have an ingrown toenail surgically fixed. It was not pleasant. A buddy turned me onto this topical solution called Outgro (pictured to the right). It's cheap and it really works. Basically it numbs the area where your ingrown nail is digging into your sensitive skin, (so that's nice) for some quick pain relief. Secondly, when the skin is numbed up it's more manageable to get in there with the right (sterile) tools and fix the problem yourself. This Outgro stuff is cheap and works well, but for whatever reason isn't at most drug stores (at least where I live) so I order it online. It's surprisingly cheaper that way too.

Remove Ingrown Toenail

In order to remove ingrown toenail issues their are essentially two choices:
  1. See a professional (see post on costs of ingrown toenail removal)
  2. Try to do it yourself (see ingrown toenail removal video)
If time and costs are of no concern at all then by all means do yourself a favor and go see a specialist who actually went to medical school to specialize in this sort of problem.

If you're going to try to remove an ingrown toenail on your own it's obviously smart to put some thought into what you're doing before you get in there and potentially hurt yourself or worst case scenario become responsible for a dangerous infection.

NOTE: Before you do or read anything else about how to remove an ingrown toenail on your own please make sure that whatever tools or ingrown toenail products you use are completely sterilized before taking them to your skin. PLEASE wash all instruments (toe nail clippers, files, etc.) in scalding water with disinfectant before poking around open wounds on your toes.

The very best way to go about removing an ingrown toenail without dealing with excruciating pain is to pick up a couple of bottles of Outgro which is bar none the most effective way to safely deaden the skin around the bothersome ingrown toenail area with an over the counter treatment in the form of a topical solution that is safe, convenient, and extremely effective.

Ingrown Toenail Pain

Ingrown toenail pain.Ingrown toenail pain is for most of us what causes us to finally admit that we have a problem that needs to be taken care of. Even for a lot of folks that have no problem seeing a doctor for any number of personal problems there can still be some reluctance about sharing the poor condition of ones feet even with a trusted physician.

An untreated ingrown toenail problem can quickly lead to pain that certainly can vary but in almost all instances the pain is directly related to the problem area coming in direct contact with something that applies pressure to the very sensitive area. While the cause of an ingrown toenail definitely varies from one individual to another it most often has to do with how cutting toenails is handled. In short the road for permanent ingrown toenail removal is paved with the old adage that an ounce of prevention is forth a pound of cure. Having said that if you're reading this post you most likely have already found yourself in a position of needing immediate relief for ingrown toenail pain and based on my personal experience there is no better bet for your money than picking up at least one bottle of Outgro, an ingrown toenail remedy that can safely be done from home.

Of course there are professional alternatives but for many people worried about the cost of ingrown toenail removal it's highly recommended that if time permits you take a serious look at picking up a bottle of Outgro to help ingrown toenails immediately.

Cutting Toenails

Cutting toenails. When cutting toenails in a manner that does not cause ingrown toenails it's important to cut toenails in a straight across manner. This differs substantially from the way that fingernails should be cut. With fingernails the best method is to cut in a natural curved manner.

For an illustration depicting the proper and improper ways of cutting toenails take a look at the cause of ingrown toenails post from about three months ago.

There are several toenail cutting products worth taking a look at including ingrown toenail files which are a wise addition to any trimming collection. For many podiatrists (foot doctors) the relationship between a good file to a pair of nail clippers is similar to how a dentist might compare the relationship of flossing and brushing teeth.
